Inštitút SGI ponúka možnosť zapojiť sa do súťaže o platenú stáž

V rámci Think Tank Young Professional Development Program hľadáme záujemcov a záujemkyne o platenú stáž s možnosťou výberu jednej z dvoch pozícií (viď.nižšie).

Ak spĺňate všetky nižšie uvedené kritériá a máte záujem o prácu v Inštitúte SGI pošlite nám elektronicky svoj životopis (v angličtine) a motivačný list (v angličtine) na adresu kostal(at)governance(dot)sk v termíne do 13.7.2014 (vrátane) označený subjektom správy TTF Internship. Neskoršie prihlášky nebudú akceptované.

Následne prebehne interný výber v rámci SGI – hodnotenie životopisov, motivačných listov, prípadne osobný pohovor. Rozhodnutie o výbere padne do 23.7.2014. Úspešný kandidát/kandidátka v spolupráci s SGI vypracuje prihlášku o podporu na Think Tank Fund (TTF), ktorú predloží do 4.augusta 2014 priamo TTF. Interný výber uchádzača/uchádzačky v rámci Inštitútu SGI ešte neznamená podporu a prijatie na platenú stáž. Definitívne rozhodnutie uskutoční TTF v mesiacoch september/október 2014.

Predpokladaná dĺžka stáže je šesť mesiacov, so začiatkom od 1.novembra 2014.
Ide o full-time pozíciu (40 hodín týždenne).
Predpokladaná odmena 600-800 EUR/mesačne

Eligibility Criteria for Young Professionals

Eligible candidates must fulfill ALL of the following four requirements:
• Have graduated in the past three years with a PhD, LLM or MA degree in the social sciences and humanities from universities in the OECD countries.
• Be a citizen or permanent resident of the selected countries in Central and Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans, and South Caucasus listed above.
• Applicants should be between 23 and 35 years of age at the time of application.
• Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English and the working language of the host organization.


Position Title: Policy Analyst and Communication Manager: Social inclusion of Roma

Description of the work task: SGI has a track record of projects with a focus on social inclusion of Roma in the fields of education and labor market. Findings of these projects, together with other existing works, are not effectively communicated to a wider public. With rising intolerance and deepening marginalization of vulnerable groups, especially Roma, there is a continuing need to contribute to media discourse with evidence-based interventions. Policy analyst and communication manager in the field of social inclusion would assist the core SGI team in drafting policy briefs, short policy papers, blog posts and newspaper entries related to running or recently
finished projects of the Institute.


Position Title: Researcher and Policy Analyst: Regional politics of extreme-right parties

Description of the work task: Regional-level elections in November 2013 brought to political power an extreme-right politician, who has become a regional governor (zupan) in Banskobystricky kraj.
SGI would like to focus on regional and local governance issues and to map and monitor on-the ground policymaking in the Banska Bystrica region. The position will contribute to better understanding of practices of sub-national policy making under the conditions of adverse political orientation of regional institutions. An intern will be expected to work on research in close cooperation with research fellows. He/she will consult a research methodology, data collection, data analysis and research outputs with the mentors. Based on these consultations he/she will analyse regional and local governance structures and monitor how the actual decision-making takes place in Banska Bystrica region. This includes issues that fall in the competence of governor, for example education policy. SGI is interested in monitoring actual implementation of policies, how they are designed, who is consulted in the process, how the policies are adopted, what bodies deliver policies and what is the quality of policy implementation. All of the abovementioned falls in the scope of the offered position.

NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS for the offered positions

Education:
MA or PhD degree in Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations or LLM in Law

Research interests:
Local and Regional Governance Levels, Social Inclusion, Public Service, Communication and Media

Language:
excellent command of English and Slovak language required (both positions)

POLICY PRODUCTS
the young professional is expected to work on and finalize during the program period:

Policy briefs – intern is expected to collaborate on preparation of policy briefs based on the research findings of SGI experts as well as other entities. He/she will work in close supervision from researchers and communication experts to master the format in high quality.
Policy papers – research findings and ongoing research activities might lead to the use of policy papers format. Intern will cooperate with mentors on selection of the proper format and in case of policy papers he/she will have an opportunity to participate in drafting of such output.
Press releases – based on the activity an intern will learn how to draft a press release summarizing interesting findings that need to be communicated to wider public not just academic or expert community. Experienced SGI staff will supervise the work.
Commentaries/ Op-eds – in order to reach wider audience newspaper commentaries and op-eds are favorite formats for dissemination of SGI research outputs and policy recommendations. SGI has a well-developed cooperation with main newspapers such as Sme or Hospodarske noviny.
Blog posts – SGI uses blog posts for dissemination of more complex information which cannot be published via newspaper commentaries. Blog posts allow for more expert content with a lot of visualizations and tables/charts.

Visualizations
– there is a strong need for the use of visualization in dissemination of main messages in research and of policy recommendations. SGI encourages researchers to collaborate with external experts who can process information into clear and understandable visualizations. An intern will be asked to manage such process and to deliver her/his own ideas into the process. At the same time, she/he will deliver visualizations.
